Portsmouth Women remain on course to finish top of the Premier Division South table after thumping Rugby Borough 4-0 at Fratton Park.

John Mousinho was among the near 2,500 spectators in attendance for Sunday's (24 March) match as Pompey made it 15 successive wins.

Ava Rowbotham, Leeta Rutherford, Ella Humphrey and Daisy McLachlan were all on target for the home side.

While the scoreline slightly flattered Portsmouth, they were deserving winners and are now on the verge of promotion.

Portsmouth closing in on title double

With the men's senior side looking good value to finish top of the League One table, the women's side are doing likewise in Division One South.

A return to the Championship for Jay Sadler's side is looking a formality at this stage as they are now sweeping aside all comers.

Backed by a relatively sizable crowd, with the attendance confirmed on the club's website [24 March], Pompey ensured the home fans were rewarded for making the trip to Fratton Park with four goals.

This win was particularly important as it ensures Rugby Borough are now unable to catch Pompey in top spot.

Had they pulled off a victory, the gap would have been reduced to six points, as opposed to the 12-point buffer now in place.

Sadler will continue to take it one game at a time, but the celebrations can already begin in earnest as only Hashtag United can now deny them.

And with a seven-point safety net heading into the final stretch, it is now a case of when rather than if Portsmouth will land the title.
