Chris Kamara shared an emotional social media message after receiving a warm reception from Portsmouth supporters at half-time versus Barnsley on Tuesday (16 April).

The former Pompey midfielder, now a popular TV and radio personality, was introduced to the crowd at half-time at Fratton Park on a night where Portsmouth wrapped up the League One title with a 3-2 win.

Kamara, 66, thanked supporters on X (17 April) and shared a personal story about his time in Portsmouth.

He wrote: "Congratulations @Pompey and thanks for the reception at half time.

"The whole crowd chanting my name makes another great memory. Got to see people from my past, some I hadn’t seen for 40 years+.

"Also showed my wife the place where I stayed and met up with the family that took me in (photo 4 The Penny’s) when I left the Navy at 16, was treated as one of the family."

Chris Kamara thankful to Portsmouth supporters

Kamara is a hugely popular figure among football supporters, most notably for his work on Soccer Saturday where he mixed expert analysis with plenty moments of comedy, many of which are viral on the internet.

More recently, Kamara has received huge acclaim for raising awareness of a rare neurological disorder he suffers from, apraxia of speech, which saw him step away from his duties on Soccer Saturday.

It was a great moment for him to enjoy with the Pompey supporters at the break and an even greater moment to enjoy when Pompey won a thriller 3-2 to put the crowning glory on what has been a truly memorable season under John Mousinho.

With the League One title wrapped up, Portsmouth can now finally begin preparations for life back in the second tier, with the club back in the Championship for the first time since the 2011-12 season. It was a night and a season to remember.
