Pompey News speaking to Don Goodman

Pompey News is delighted to have Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman joining its team of Portsmouth experts in 2024. Goodman played for the likes of Bradford, West Brom, Sunderland, Wolves, Motherwell and Walsall in his career and since hanging up his boots, he's been working in the media with Sky Sports, where he has become a bonafide EFL expert. Don will bring you expert insight on all the goings on at Portsmouth.

Don Goodman has hailed the "absolutely remarkable job" John Mousinho has done at Portsmouth in their promotion-winning season.

Pompey are heading back to the Championship after more than a decade away, doing so in style as champions of the third tier.

Mousinho was only appointed in January 2023, raising plenty of eyebrows at the time, but he has been a major hit at Fratton Park.

Speaking to Pompey News, Goodman said: "John Mousinho has done an absolutely remarkable job.

"He's gone on record to say it's gone even better than even he could have imagined. He deserves all the credit he's getting.

"He's built a really good team there who play good football and they're thoroughly worthy champions.

"The Championship will definitely be a better place with Portsmouth in it next season."

John Mousinho at Portsmouth to stay

Given it was his first managerial role, and the circumstances surrounding the appointment, it is no surprise supporters were wary when Mousinho was brought to the club.

However, the former Brentford, Burton Albion and Oxford United player has played a huge part in Portsmouth's rise back up to the second tier after a 12-year absence.

Mousinho is fully deserving of the praise he is getting, although it should also be said that every player has also stood up this season to get Pompey over the line with time to spare.

This is just the very start of what is going to be a hugely successful coaching career for Mousinho, hopefully the next few years of which - at the very least - will be spent at Portsmouth.
