Portsmouth captain Marlon Pack has agreed terms on a new contract at Fratton Park, according to The News.

Jordan Cross' report [31 May] details that a new deal has been agreed between the skipper and his hometown club, after Pack led the side to the Championship as League One champions.

The 33-year-old - whose new deal is likely to be a 12-month extension - swept the club's Player of the Season awards in 2023-24 with 39 appearances in all competitions.

The report notes: "Pack will now lead John Mousinho’s side into the Championship next season, with negotiations reaching a successful conclusion.

"It’s a boost for Mousinho, ahead of what is set to be a busy summer of squad reshaping for Pompey’s return to the second tier."

The news that Pack will be staying at Portsmouth will be music to the ears of the fans he represents.

Described in the report as the Blues' "on-field lieutenant", Pompey would not have won promotion without the former Bristol City and Cardiff City enforcer, who brings a crucial wealth of Championship experience into John Mousinho's squad.

Pack and full-back Connor Ogilvie were the only out-of-contract Portsmouth first-team players to be offered new deals, demonstrating the esteem in which they are held at Fratton Park.

It will be interesting to see how Ogilvie's negotiations pan out, though the 28-year-old is heavily expected to stay on the South Coast to embark on his first season at Championship level.

There is also thought to be an avenue through which Pack could become part of Pompey's footballing staff when he does hang up his boots - but for now, Pompey have got their captain and leader secured in their most exciting season in the current era.
