Portsmouth Women have been given a fresh boost ahead of the new season as Annie Rolf has signed her first professional contract with the club.

In the latest move since Pompey announced their women's team would turn fully professional for this season, they have secured their latest star to a full-time deal.

Rolf confirmed her new terms and expressed her delight on X [6 July], following the story published by Portsmouth on their official website.

The 25-year-old midfielder said: "Grateful to have signed my first professional contract with Pompey Women.

"So excited to get going and looking forward to this year in the [Championship]."

Portsmouth Women secure Rolf contract

Portsmouth tying down Rolf for a full-time deal is a statement of intent from the Blues.

Jay Sadler and his staff are buoyed by the news of retaining a key midfield player, who since arriving back in January 2022 has scored 10 goals in 53 appearances as the team stormed to promotion last season.

Next term will be a tough task in the Championship, but the investment from the Eisners of late has given Portsmouth every possible chance of establishing themselves in the second tier of women's football following just one year semi-pro.

Just like the men's team, the women's side of the club have been ruthless in the reshuffle of their squad, releasing 10 of last season's title-winning squad - though some of these departures are due to logistics and other work interests.

The retaining of Rolf is a key move for Sadler and his staff at Westleigh Park, as the squad begins to take shape in time for 2024-25.
