Portsmouth are keen on signing Australian left-back Jacob Farrell, according to Andrew Moon.

The BBC journalist reported via X on 19 July that Pompey are keen on adding Farrell to their ranks but a deal isn't over the line just yet.

Mousinho is preparing his side for life in the Championship after a terrific title triumph in League One last season.

Portsmouth should sign Jacob Farrell this summer

John Mousinho's side have already been fairly busy this summer transfer window.

The likes of Jordan Williams and Josh Murphy have been added to Pompey's ranks this summer as they look to put together a squad capable of dealing with the rigours of the Championship.

Although sporting director Rich Hughes stated that the club would be looking to improve the centre of their midfield [The News, 12 July] this summer, Farrell could also be a solid addition in defence.

By adding the Australian to the team, it would allow Jack Sparkes to push further forward to the left wing if needed and would also mean that Connor Ogilvie could be deployed as a centre-back.

Although the duo were more often than not used as full-backs last season, the fact that the attacking prowess of Sparkes could be utilised going forward could be crucial in helping them adapt.

And, with the prospect of a few players exiting either permanently or on loan [Andrew Moon, 17 July] this summer, extra bodies would always be a welcome addition.
