David Norris shares 'risk' verdict as Tino Anjorin return weighed up at Portsmouth
David Norris warned that Portsmouth must be careful when balancing up the risk factors in a possible return for Tino Anjorin.
Pompey are keen on bringing the Chelsea midfielder back to Fratton Park which would likely be on another loan deal, following the club's failure to re-sign Alex Robertson from Manchester City.
Anjorin impressed when he featured for John Mousinho's side, but a hamstring tear robbed him of a significant part of the campaign with only five of his 12 league matches from the starting XI.
"I guess whether to punt for Anjorin again depends on what the financial package is on that," the former Blues midfielder exclusively told Pompey News.
"Then you weigh that up with the risk of his injuries, that will be the key factor in the decision.
"For what they could pay for a loan and wages for Anjorin, the club may feel they could bring another two players in - and whilst he's very gifted and they'd love to have him back, there's always that risk there."
Portsmouth weighing up Anjorin move
The combination of missing out on Robertson and the Championship season getting underway on Saturday means Portsmouth are likely to at least enquire about Anjorin.
The performances the 22-year-old delivered whilst fit were enough to encourage many Pompey fans that he deserves a chance of a sustained run of games in the second tier.
Anjorin did not travel with Chelsea on the club's pre-season tour in the USA, and has not featured at all for Enzo Maresca's side this summer - in fact his last senior appearance was Pompey's season finale at Lincoln City back in April.
The fitness risk is obviously significant, but it was not a relentless succession of injuries but rather one major blow which ruled Anjorin out of the campaign - and it may be unfair to brand him injury-prone based off the hamstring tear which kept him out for months [BBC Sport, 3 April].
I personally was in favour of leaving the move for Anjorin be for now to let him prove his fitness elsewhere, but as time goes on, Pompey are still in need of midfield cover despite the recent signing of Andre Dozzell - and in my view it would be a positive to see Anjorin back through the door.
