Portsmouth Women have moved quickly to strengthen their squad in the January transfer window, signing three players.

The Blues officially announced the arrivals of Jazz Bull, Emma Thompson and Hannah Poulter in the space of three days to join the ranks at Westleigh Park.

The latter replaces England youngster Eve Annets, the teenage stopper who has been recalled from her Pompey loan by parent club Manchester City (Portsmouth FC on X, 17 January).

Jay Sadler's side return to league action on Sunday afternoon (19 January) against Birmingham City, having secured a fantastic 3-1 Women's FA Cup fourth round win at Blackburn Rovers on Wednesday (15 January).

The women's winter transfer window opens midway through January due to the festive break, meaning Portsmouth have wasted absolutely no time in getting reinforcements through the door.

With Annets heading back north to Manchester, it was vital a new goalkeeper was brought in and Poulter, 19, arrives on loan from Brighton with experience for various England age groups.

Thompson, a 20-year-old forward, has joined on loan unusually from Southampton, having progressed through the youth ranks with Chelsea and England.

Bull, a defender aged 22, has bolstered the backline in Sadler's squad on loan from Bristol City, whom she helped gain promotion to the WSL last season with 14 appearances. She is also a Scotland Under-23 international.

Tough tests will lie ahead for Pompey during the second half of the campaign, but the young team can take confidence from the last two results: the fantastic away win over Blackburn in the cup, and the 2-2 draw at Sunderland before Christmas in the league.
