Hull journalist credits Portsmouth in ‘Horrific’ new message
Portsmouth completed their impressive Championship return with a 1-1 draw against Hull City at Fratton Park on Saturday
Although Pompey secured their safety a couple of weeks ago, the Tigers went into the encounter in the relegation zone.
By earning a point, Ruben Selles’ men joined the South Coast side in ensuring their Championship status for another season.
Following the game, supporters and journalists alike took to social media to express their feelings on the defining day.

Pompey message emerges after dramatic day
It was a rollercoaster season for both Portsmouth and Hull, who were both relegation candidates throughout the season.
While John Mousinho’s side went on a phenomenal run to turn their season around, the Tigers left it to the eleventh hour to save their standing.
Selles’ side entered the final day in the drop zone and had to rely on other results to go their way, which they did.
With Luton Town well beaten by West Brom, a point was enough to ensure they will play Championship football next season.
Hull journalist Baz Cooper took to X on Monday to share his thoughts on the celebratory scenes in the away end at Fratton Park, despite a horrid afternoon of nerves.
He said: “Love this. So pleased for everyone at #hcafc that the job was done. Horrific campaign, but we escaped. And credit to Pompey for being great final day hosts.”
Home support can help Pompey improve next season
If it were not for Portsmouth’s home form this season, the South Coast club may well have been relegated.
Mousinho’s men were the second-worst away side in the division, having picked up 14 points on the road.
Only Plymouth Argyle managed fewer after collecting a meagre 12 points away from home.
On the slip side, Pompey ranked as the eighth strongest home side in the division, finishing with 40 points, more than Middlesbrough and Norwich City.
| Home/Away | Won | Drew | Lost | Points |
| Home | 11 | 7 | 5 | 40 |
| Away | 3 | 5 | 15 | 14 |
Given the South Coast club’s incredible home support, it is no wonder they picked up such a substantial number of points at Fratton Park.
By finishing 16th, Mousinho and the supporters must be given credit for getting their men over the line with games to spare.
Portsmouth can look ahead to next season with pride and optimism as they strive for even greater things.
