Portsmouth star Murphy reacts as emotional exit video posted

Josh Murphy played a major part in Portsmouth surviving the drop in the Championship last season with time to spare.

The goal for Portsmouth this summer will be to attract some exciting new players while keeping hold of their biggest stars.

It was thought that might not be easy to achieve, as bigger clubs could potentially interested in the likes of Murphy or Colby Bishop.

Yet, the transfer window is going well enough so far for the Blues.

Australian playmaker Adrian Segecic has arrived on a free transfer, and there have been no bids for Pompey’s best players.

Murphy reacts to Instagram post after emotional Callum Wilson exit

Murphy and his Pompey teammates are currently in a pre-season training camp in Bratislava.

They will begin their schedule of pre-season fixtures on 15 July to prepare themselves for the start of their Championship season on 9 August.

Although it would appear that Murphy is going nowhere, he has reacted to an Instagram post about another player leaving his club.

Newcastle United posted a compilation of Callum Wilson’s best moments on Monday (7 July), after the striker confirmed he would be leaving the club.

Murphy liked the video, which included Wilson’s best goals and some emotional interviews.

Jacob Murphy, twin brother of Josh, has been a Newcastle player since 2017.

More signings needed for Portsmouth to avoid relegation scrap

The signing of Segecic is an exciting one for Portsmouth.

If the Aussie lives up to his potential, he should take some of the creative burden off of Murphy. Pompey have been too reliant on him to turn on the style at times.

Thankfully, he enjoyed his most consistent season ever, contributing with 14 assists and seven goals as Portsmouth registered a 16th-place finish.

More signings will be needed to ensure that Portsmouth aren’t dragged into a relegation battle though.

The Blues have lost loan signings Freddie Potts, Isaac Hayden and Rob Atkinson. All of them will need to be replaced.

Some extra strikers will also be needed after Kusini Yengi and Christian Saydee left the club.

And, of course, it’s vital that Pompey don’t entertain any bids for their player of the year Murphy. He is the jewel in the crown at Fratton Park, and his continued good form will be crucial.
