Portsmouth ‘to play perfect card’ in head-to-head Rangers battle for Diangana

Portsmouth could again take advantage of the free-agent market after a slow start to the transfer window.

Pompey have struggled to compete for signings so far this summer, bringing just one player to Fratton Park.

The Blues continued to build their Aussie contingent with the signing of Adrian Segecic.

With the lowest budget in the Championship last season, Mousinho’s side have been forced to look for free agents in order to build a competitive side.

Portsmouth can bring Diangana to Fratton Park with lure of regular gametime

Portsmouth finally look ready to make moves this summer after being linked to the likes of Nectarios Triantis.

The Blues are still yet to replace Christian Saydee and Kusini Yengi after the pair were offloaded earlier this summer.

Free agent Grady Diangana could be an ideal addition to Pompey’s forward line.

The winger’s contract with West Brom ran out at the end of June, and according to Sports Boom (7 July) the Congo international has attracted interest from Portsmouth and Rangers.

Pompey boss John Mousinho is hopeful of tempting Diangana to Fratton Park ahead of their second season back in the Championship.

Should Portsmouth make a move, they will have the edge over Rangers as they can offer the playmaker regular starts.

The 27-year-old would have to find his form again and earn a place in Rangers’ starting eleven, making the move a less attractive prospect.

Diangana was signed for £18million by West Bromwich Albion in 2020 but his form ultimately dipped as the Baggies failed to get promoted to the Premier League.

Portsmouth could struggle next season if they don’t make signings quickly

Diangana is the type of player that Pompey should be moving quickly for.

Mousinho’s side need to build on the signing of Segecic immediately, with fans worried that the Fratton Park club are already playing catch-up in the transfer window.

Diangana’s natural talent on the ball and ability to play in several positions would make Diangana an attractive signing for Pompey, who desperately need to add depth to their squad.
