Promotion to the Championship is paying off in more ways than one for Portsmouth as their Fratton Park home is in line for further renovation.

Pompey play their final game of a successful League One campaign on Saturday (27 April), before focus then turns to a second-tier return.

Before Portsmouth's next competitive match in August, work is being carried out at the club's long-time home to get it up to scratch.

And Portsmouth MP Stephen Morgan is hopeful that the work on Fratton Park and the surrounding areas will not stop there.

Morgan, as quoted by his own website [26 April], said he is "determined to continue doing what I can" to support the development at Fratton Park "for the benefit of the supporters and our city".

Fratton Park expansion on cards

The MP personally visited Fratton Park this week following news that there is funding in place to carry out work on a nearby footbridge.

Once that work is carried out, there is potential for the ground to be expanded and for more infrastructure to be put in place around the stadium.

Portsmouth supporters have been as loud and proud as ever this season

While these plans have been in place for a while, promotion will no doubt help speed up the process.

Not only does Championship football bring in extra funds, it also means more eyes are now on Portsmouth as they potentially push for a Premier League return in the near future.

All that makes for a very exciting future indeed for Portsmouth Football Club.
