Portsmouth have been fined £50,000 by the FA and issued a warning following the pitch invasion against Barnsley last season, Andy Moon has shared.

The BBC Radio Solent broadcaster posted on X (16 January) to share the news from the incident nine months ago after Pompey secured promotion back to the Championship.

Blues fans may believe it was worth every penny for the club, having returned to the second tier for the first time since the 2011-12 season with a 3-2 win over the Reds at Fratton Park.

Portsmouth finances hit after new FA fine

Portsmouth fans are anxiously watching the club in the January transfer window with many of the belief that if the squad is not adequately strengthened, they are returning straight back to League One.

At the end of the day, it's £50,000. A large sum to the everyman on the street; not to a Championship football club. You could probably find the thousands of fans who invaded the pitch and have a whip-round if you really wanted.

However, what the club cannot do is use this small blow as an excuse to paper over any cracks in the transfer window, as the hierarchies at some English clubs might attempt.

Pompey have so far brought in two players on loan deals with a third signing lined up as a "development" transfer in the shape of teenage Australian striker Thomas Waddingham.

The defeat at Blackburn Rovers on 15 January was certainly helped by a poor performance from the officials, but it also highlighted the lack of quality that John Mousinho has at his disposal.
