View: Portsmouth to receive short-term cash boost with new retail store opening in city

Portsmouth are expected to enjoy a considerable financial windfall as a new official pop-up store opens in Gunwharf Quays.

The temporary retail shop - situated opposite The Liquorist and round the corner from the Spinnaker Tower - will be active from Friday 1 November until January 2025, according to the club's official website [21 October].

Together with kit supplier Nike and retail partner Just Sport, Pompey have expressed their joy at being able to finally offer an external outlet for official merchandise once again.

CEO Andy Cullen said: "The club’s merchandising business has experienced rapid growth over the past two years – delivering record sales in 2023-24 – and we remain on course to deliver another great season.

"Gunwharf Quays is the south coast’s premier retail destination, and our presence there provides us with a new and exciting opportunity to promote Pompey to the many thousands of people, from both home and abroad, who will visit over Christmas and New Year."

It may only be temporary for now, but Portsmouth will receive an excellent boost and appeal to a new market of visitors to the city who would not regularly be passing through Fratton Park and therefore buying goods.

Pompey players are set to be present at several events at the pop-up store to attract custom, with many of the first-team squad housed across Gunwharf's apartment complexes.

The festive period will see demand rise for club merchandise, and Cullen is looking to be the driving force behind taking full advantage.

Several measures have already been set in motion to maximise the club's earnings, with the Blues having invested millions of pounds into the refurbishment of their home.

It promises to be an exciting venture for the club.
