Portsmouth have been left reeling from yet another injury blow as Jacob Farrell has picked up a new setback with his knee, according to Andy Moon.

The BBC Radio Solent commentator posted on X (8 January) the "bad news" that the left-back, who signed at Fratton Park in the summer, will now be ruled out for an extended period of time which is as yet unclear.

Farrell, 22, was one of a 14-strong band of summer arrivals at Pompey when he made the move from Australian champions Central Coast Mariners.

But he has so far made just one appearance in a blue shirt in an injury-ravaged spell to date - which ended in a clean sheet at Fratton against promotion hopefuls Sheffield United on 28 September last year.

Jacob Farrell needs rally of Portsmouth support

Portsmouth fans will firstly be considering their club and John Mousinho's selection situation when discovering Farrell's fresh injury blow.

But a thought both inside and outside of Fratton Park must be spared for the young star, who packed his life up from over 10,000 miles away last summer to try his hand at the Championship.

A highly-rated, athletic full-back, there remain high hopes for Farrell to become a success in English football, having already achieved the pinnacle of what he can in his native Australia with back-to-back A-League titles.

Connor Ogilvie has at times struggled with the step up from League One but has had little to no competition for his place due to Farrell's injury.

He thoroughly impressed in his sole Pompey display to date in the goalless draw with Sheffield United, who are one of the favourites to return to the Premier League at the first attempt at the end of the campaign.

We all wish the lad well for his long-awaited return to action in blue.
