Portsmouth forward Kusini Yengi was absent from the 3-3 draw with Leeds United having picked up a groin injury, Jordan Cross has shared.

The News' Pompey reporter revealed the news on X [10 August] that the Australian international was missing from the contest, as new striker Elias Sorensen netted on his debut in the rollercoaster draw.

John Mousinho's men secured a remarkable point and came very close to three having both led and trailed in West Yorkshire, with Yengi one of seven first-team players already out injured.

Cross posted: "Yengi missing with a groin injury", having quoted his own earlier news that the striker would be missing alongside the fact that four players made debuts in the starting XI.

Portsmouth overcome injury struggles to earn point

The most creditable aspect of Pompey's helter-skelter thriller at Elland Road is that the team head back south with a point having seen seven first-team injury blows.

Yengi joins Tom McIntyre, Regan Poole, Colby Bishop, Jacob Farrell, Josh Murphy and Anthony Scully on the sidelines as they recover from various fitness issues.

Whilst Leeds expectedly dominated the majority of the contest, Pompey's work-rate never faded and when Christian Saydee won his side a penalty out of the blue, Lang's converted spot-kick was a very momentary cloud nine.

When the ensuing two minutes witnessed Brenden Aaronson both nab an equaliser and then miss a one-on-one with the busy Will Norris, there was confusion over what to think when the whistle blew.

But now the dust has settled, a draw is certainly a positive - especially with the absences among the squad at this early stage in the season - and Pompey can return to Fratton Park buoyant.
