Colby Bishop makes future admission after hitting Portsmouth milestone

Colby Bishop has revealed how he sees his future at Portsmouth following the milestone he hit in the win over Cardiff City.

The striker scored his 50th goal for Pompey in just two-and-a-half years at Fratton Park, opening the scoring in the ninth minute of the Championship victory on Tuesday night (11 February).

Bishop is lauded as a Pompey great already following his return from major heart surgery earlier this campaign, which he completed in a remarkably short timeframe of just 12 weeks.

Bishop pulled no punches when he spoke to BBC Radio Solent after the 2-1 win over Omer Riza's Cardiff on the coast.

The striker stood tall insisting that the "proof's in the pudding" in his goalscoring ability, having hit his fifth of the campaign in midweek to add to the 45 he approached the season with.

Bishop was prolific for the Blues in League One and feels he is adapting well to his first experience of the Championship, and the 28-year-old admitted he loves Portsmouth so much he would be open to staying for his entire career.

"It's frustrating as a striker going on a barren run, but I've had them before and I'll have them again. That was my 50th goal for the club in just over two seasons, and I hate to say it to people but the proof's in the pudding. I have to back myself," the frontman said.

"I don't feel there's too much difference between the Championship and League One - the goals are the same size and the chances are the same, you just get punished more at the other end.

"I love this place, my family love living here, staying here for the rest of my career would be great if that's a possibility."

John Mousinho appears settled on a favoured starting XI which took a long time given the horrific injury luck with which his side have been operating.

Bishop was not even initially registered to represent Portsmouth in the league before January but a loophole allowed him to replace the sidelined Ibane Bowat in the squad and make his return earlier than anyone had anticipated against Preston, marking his comeback by scoring a penalty at the Fratton End (9 November).

Mark O'Mahony was included on the bench against Cardiff after a long lay-off and Kusini Yengi is close to a full return, increasing the forward competition, but for now Bishop is the undisputed mainstay to spearhead the Pompey attack.
