Portsmouth defender Zak Swanson is not expected to require surgery on his groin, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.

The injury expert claims that while he has suffered a groin injury earlier in the season as well, it may not necessarily be in the same area.

The highest it's likely to be is a Grade 3 injury and he should return for pre-season without any worries.

Discussing his situation exclusively with Portsmouth NewsBrar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, said: "It’s an injury he dealt with earlier in the season so he’s had another issue with his groin – not sure if it’s reinjury specifically but it’s in the same area, at the least.

"If it’s a higher Grade 2 or 3 injury, that would likely see him not being able to train for around a month.

"Now that the season is done, the club will use the next month to assist him with his rehab while giving him the time to rest before he’s back for pre-season.

"Nothing suggests that he will be needing surgery."

Swanson and Portsmouth can breathe easy

The 23-year-old's last game for Pompey came on 16 April in the 3-2 win against Barnsley.

They already secured promotion via winning the league so it did not make sense to ask Swanson to play through the pain barrier.
