Madiodio Dia has earned plaudits for his performance in Portsmouth's win against Norwich City on Saturday.

Pompey earned a big three points on the road, beating the Canaries 1-0 at Carrow Road.

John Mousinho's men needed to show a response after losing 1-0 to a 10-man Southampton team in the south coast derby last weekend, and they've done so with consecutive Championship wins.

Marezi converted from the spot after Abu Kamara was fouled by Jacob Wright early into the second 45.

However, the Blues' defence was then tested for the remainder of the contest, but Mousinho's backline stood strong to earn their third clean sheet of the season.

Dia was particularly impressive at the back and is now predicted to have a long and successful career at Portsmouth.

Portsmouth fans react to Madiodio Dia's performance vs Norwich City

Dia signed for Portsmouth ahead of last January's deadline, signing from Norwegian side FK Haugesund.

The centre-back was given staggered opportunities by Mousinho in the second half of last season, but now appears to be going from strength to strength for Pompey.

The 22-year-old won 67 per cent of his ground duels and 100 per cent of his aerial duels against Norwich.

The Senegal-born defender had a 78 per cent passing accuracy, rarely looking stressed under pressure.

Portsmouth fans and the media have now flocked to X, praising Dia for his performance against the Canaries.

One Pompey fan wrote: "Dia generational, [Iyad] Mohamed exceptional for his 60 minutes."

Another Portsmouth fan stated: "I hope Dia becomes a cult hero like [Sean] Raggett did."

But with Dia performing so well, does it pose some danger for another one of his teammates?

What Dia emergence means for another Portsmouth centre-back

Dia has started in four consecutive Championship games for Portsmouth, and is only showing signs of improvement.

He and Regan Poole are Mousinho's clear favoured centre-back pairing, with Pompey currently short of fit players in the position.

One man currently unavailable is Conor Shaughnessy, who could return from his muscle injury later in October.

The defender has been out injured since the 2-2 draw against Blackburn Rovers on 19 September.

However, the 30-year-old is essentially fighting for his future at Fratton Park, with his current deal set to expire in June 2027.

But Dia's recent performances mean that the Irishman might struggle to get back into the starting eleven, which could harm his chances of earning a new deal.

Time will tell, but the stars are not aligning for Shaughnessy right now.
