Mousinho shares Scully return timeline as Portsmouth loanee undergoes surgery

John Mousinho says Anthony Scully has returned to Portsmouth from his loan at Colchester United for surgery on his ankle.

Scully has not been officially recalled, which means he will be set to resume his stint with the Essex side when his recovery is complete.

Mousinho, speaking to BBC Radio Solent's Andy Moon [20 November], has put a timescale of around six weeks on the winger's recovery.

"Anthony's back with us, he picked up an injury with Colchester. He's had surgery [this week] to remove an old issue he had with a plate in his ankle.

"We're hoping to accelerate the rehabilitation process with Anthony and it'll be about six weeks altogether."

Although not directly a part of the Portsmouth squad this season, Scully is now another in the club's treatment room.

Pompey have endured an extensive injury crisis this term, although mainly in the defensive department - Mousinho did confirm Zak Swanson is not far off a return, but Conor Shaughnessy, Jordan Williams and Jacob Farrell remain ruled out until at least into December.

Scully is likely not to play for the club again, with his loan in League Two taking him until the end of his contract at Fratton Park.

He made the move to former Blues coach Danny Cowley's Colchester late into deadline day in the summer as Pompey attempted to rapidly shift fringe players.

Scully would otherwise have wound up in the same situation as Tom Lowery and Ben Stevenson, neither of whom are registered to feature in the Championship due to the oversized squad.
