Dan Bardell says Portsmouth can drastically improve their mentality if they secure another win against Cardiff City on Tuesday night [22 October].

Pompey picked up their elusive first win back in the Championship on Saturday 19 October, coming from behind to beat Queens Park Rangers 2-1.

John Mousinho's side face a quick turnaround to make the trip to South Wales against the club they beat to win the FA Cup final at Wembley in 2008.

"The fact they've got that win is massive. That's a monkey off their backs," sports broadcaster Bardell exclusively told Pompey News.

"It's a real positive to get their first win but it would be excellent if they can build on that.

"Hopefully, for their sake, they can get that second win [at Cardiff]."

Portsmouth can move out of the relegation zone

As enjoyable as Portsmouth's win at Loftus Road may have been, it did not move the Blues upwards in the Championship table due to Cardiff's 5-0 rout of Plymouth Argyle.

Pompey's last trip to the Cardiff City Stadium came in August 2022, an impressive 3-0 Carabao Cup win.

Marlon Pack - formerly of Cardiff - and Zak Swanson were the only current Blues players to start that night.

The last win the club enjoyed over the Bluebirds before that evening was the iconic Wembley win under Harry Redknapp, with Pompey now able to move clear of the drop zone with three points.
