Portsmouth handed boost over incident that John Mousinho was fuming about
John Mousinho's side are looking to bounce back against newly relegated Ipswich Town after two frustrating results.
Portsmouth have had a difficult past two gameweeks, starting with a draw against rivals Southampton, which saw star goalkeeper Nicolas Schmid suffer a brutal first-half injury.
The injury wasn't short of controversy, with Mousinho pointing fingers at the referee and Southampton winger Tom Fellows in a post-match interview. Mousinho's comments could now be investigated by the FA.
Portsmouth then suffered more woe at the weekend when they lost 2-0 at home to Championship strugglers Sheffield Wednesday.
After a chaotic couple of days, Pompey have now been handed a boost of positivity from a fresh injury update.
Nicolas Schmid is not in need of hand surgery
After what was initially thought to be an injury that required surgery, The News has revealed that Schmid could be back in action sooner than expected.
Jordan Cross from The News said: "The good news is the 28-year-old will not be required to go under the knife, with Mousinho indicating last week that would be a potential consideration - though optimistic that would not be the case.

"It remains to be seen, however, if avoiding surgery can quicken the key figure’s recovery time with Mousinho putting an eight to 12-week timeframe on Schmid’s time on the sidelines when addressing the press last week.
"The Pompey boss explained the outstanding keeper will see a specialist this week, where he will likely gain a clearer picture of how long he’ll likely be out of the first-team picture."
With this in mind, Ben Killip has a chance to cement himself for now as Pompey's number one, with new signing Josef Bursik now also available for Mousinho.
Which Portsmouth games can we expect Nicolas Schmid back for?
The 28-year-old has become a fan favourite since arriving from Austrian outfit BW Linz in 2024, and they are undoubtedly a stronger side with him in it.
A timeframe of eight to 12 weeks could see him back for the end of November, going into December - one of the busiest periods in the Championship.

In the meantime, Mousinho and his men will be looking to pick up as many points as they currently sit a promising 12th in the table.
Though a disappointing result against Sheffield Wednesday, Pompey's performance against Southampton away from home despite the controversy was commendable.
Other impressive performances against Oxford United, West Brom, and Preston have all shown Pompey have gone up a gear this season.
