Tim Sherwood had a short but sweet Portsmouth career during his time at Fratton Park.

The former midfielder played for Pompey between 2003-04, making 33 appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals.

Here, Sherwood was part of the Portsmouth team that won Division One and were promoted to the Premier League.

Now, over 20 years after he left the South Coast club, Sherwood is clearly still influenced by Portsmouth as he takes aim at Southampton’s Will Still.

Tim Sherwood: Will Still looks thrilled to be at Anfield 

Still has not had a great time at Southampton since taking over in the summer.

The Saints are struggling in the Championship, with Southampton’s failure to beat Portsmouth only adding to the pressure.

On Tuesday, Still’s side are set to travel to Anfield to take on Liverpool in the Carabao Cup.

  • Southampton are currently 19th in the Championship after six matches
  • The Saints face Liverpool in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday after overcoming Northampton and Norwich City in the earlier rounds
  • Still has struggled at Southampton so far this season and is already under pressure

However, in an interview with Sky Sports on 23 September, the Saints manager looked far from amused, which Sherwood was quick to mock on Sky Sports News.

The former Pompey star said: “Just looking at Will there, he looks excited at the prospect of playing at Anfield. 

“I mean, you’d probably would with the players they have got on offer, you’d be a little bit scared.”

Will Still on borrowed time at Southampton

The fact that Portsmouth remain above Southampton after their humbling against Sheffield Wednesday speaks volumes.

Despite the Saints’ struggles in the Premier League last season, they were widely assumed to be fighting for promotion this season.

As it stands, they sit 19th, just one point above the relegation zone despite the quality that their squad possesses.

If results are turned around quickly, Still may not survive too much longer in the dugout in Southampton as the playoffs slowly creep away.

However, many of the Fratton Park faithful likely insist that the 32-year-old is doing a marvellous job at present.
