Portsmouth look to put South Coast derby disappointment behind them on Wednesday night.

John Mousinho's side fell frustratingly flat at St Mary's on Sunday, with bragging rights going to Southampton.

Pompey passed up a golden chance to get one over on Saints after the home side were reduced to 10 just before half-time.

However, despite monopolising the chances in the second 45, the Blues spurned numerous openings and thus fell to a 1-0 defeat.

The Championship often provides quick turnarounds from one fixture to the next, however, and that's the case for Pompey.

Pompey News predicts how Mousinho might line his team up when Sheffield United come to Fratton Park on Wednesday night.

John Mousinho's hands tied in defence ahead of Sheffield Utd

The News detail Mousinho's admission that Conor Shaughnessy is highly unlikely to be available for selection against Sheffield United.

Meanwhile, Benjy Arthur is also not expected back until December at the earliest, leaving the Pompey boss with limited options at the back.

In goal, Nicolas Schmid could retain his place between the sticks after Daniel Bielica's benching at St Mary's.

At left-back, Jayden Meghoma was a positive outlet against Saints despite being at fault for the goal, and may again start on Wednesday.

Due to the aforementioned injuries, centre-backs Regan Poole and Madiodio Dia could reprise their partnership against Blades.

Meanwhile, Zak Swanson didn't have a great afternoon on Sunday, and that could see Terry Devlin take his place at right-back.

So, might Mousinho be tempted to make further adjustments further up the pitch for the visit of Chris Wilder's side?

Mousinho may protect young attacker vs Sheffield Utd

In central midfield, Ebou Adams played well after replacing Rocco Shein, and could keep his spot in the side as a result.

Next to him at St Mary's was Marlon Pack, and the Pompey skipper may start his eighth Championship game of the season against Blades.

Over on the left, Tyrese Shade was constantly trying to hurt Saints' defence, and could go again on Wednesday night.

Down the right, 17-year-old Ryan Kavuma-McQueen was hooked by Mousinho at half-time at St Mary's.

The Chelsea loanee didn't have a great first half, and with Mousinho sure to be aware of the importance of protecting him, Adrian Segecic might start over him this week.

In the number 10 position, Abu Kamara was trying to make things happen all afternoon against Saints, and get his ninth start of the campaign.

That just leaves the centre-forward position to sort out, and Mousinho has an interesting call to make here.

Will Marko Milovanovic be fit to start vs Sheff Utd?

Seen for the first time in over a month on Sunday, Marko Milovanovic came off the bench to get 25 minutes against Southampton.

The Serbian is Pompey's top scorer this season with two goals, and will be a player Mousinho wants to get back in his starting XI ASAP.

As detailed in the aforementioned report from The News, Mousinho has revealed that Milovanovic "should be ready to be able to contribute more in terms of minutes."

However, he's still unlikely to be ready to start from the off on Wednesday night, and so perhaps for one more week, Colby Bishop may again lead the line.
