Nicolas Schmid had a moment to forget in Portsmouth's clash with Millwall on Saturday.

John Mousinho's side fought back for a 2-1 win on Saturday as Pompey took the chance to, at least temporarily, move into the Championship play-off spaces.

But they were not helped by an absolute horror moment in goal for Schmid.

In just the sixth minute, Pompey's number one inexplicably passed the ball straight into the path of Jenson Metcalfe.

The Millwall midfielder then rolled the ball into the back of the net to put the visitors into an early lead at Fratton Park.

An own goal from Lyndon Dykes 10 minutes later and Thomas Waddingham's late effort saw Portsmouth earn all three points, but Schmid understandably copped for plenty of criticism.

Nicolas Schmid leaves Sky Sports commentator in disbelief

It was a barely believable minute or so for Schmid, who just completely switched off twice.

Pompey's first-choice keeper had already had his blushes spared when a poor attempted pass was picked off by Camiel Neghli, who could only shoot wide.

From the next play, Schmid played his attemped pass straight to Metcalfe, who did not pass up his free gift.

The two moments happening so quick left Sky Sports Commentator Courtney Sweetman-Kirk stunned by what she had seen.

Reacting immedinately on commentary for Sky Sports +, she said: "It's unbelievable, I said are Millway trying to lull Pompey into a false sense of security?

"They don't do anything particularly special there. Yes, Dykes, as all forwards will do, starts to close down, showing the goalkeeper one way.

"But it's absolutely terrible distribution, Metcalf can't believe his luck. Just on the back of one mistake already, Schmid has had an absolute howler."

An ugly moment for Nicolas Schmid as Portsmouth fight back

Goalkeepers are always encouraged to be brave in this day and age.

Indeed, being good with your feet is almost as important as what you can do with your hands, such is the way the game has gone.

But you simply cannot make the sort of mistakes Schmid made here, especially so quickly in succession.

The first one was careless, but Pompey got away with it, so you can forgive it.

To do it again from literally the very next play was absolutely mind-boggling, and had Pompey on the back foot.

Bravery should always be encouraged, but it cannot come at the expense of such carelessness.

Thankfully for Schmid, Pompey put in a brave showing to fight back and earn the win.
