David Norris expects Portsmouth favourite to push for January exit

David Norris

Pompey News is delighted to welcome David Norris as its exclusive pundit. Norris' time at Fratton Park may have only been brief but he's left a lasting legacy with 7 April being known as 'David Norris Day' by most Portsmouth fans thanks to his stunning last-gasp goal equaliser against Southampton in 2012. Norris also played for Plymouth, Ipswich, Leeds and Blackpool and he's now here to talk to us regularly about all things Portsmouth.

David Norris expects Will Norris to seek a move away from Portsmouth in January if he cannot force a way back into the side.

The stopper's run of 54 straight games for Pompey came to an end when John Mousinho opted to drop him for Nicolas Schmid against Oxford United, though the Austrian is a doubt for Friday night [25 October] against Sheffield Wednesday after suffering blurred vision.

Jordan Archer, who appears to be third in the pecking order, made his debut replacing Schmid on Tuesday night [22 October] in a 2-0 loss at Cardiff City.

Former Blues midfielder and cult hero Norris, speaking exclusively to Pompey News, said: "I think Will Norris might look for a fresh start if he can't get his place back.

"Clubs don't tend to sign senior goalkeepers for a fee if they don't look to make them first-choice.

"Norris has put in some good performances but has struggled at times, too."

Portsmouth prefer Nicolas Schmid as number one

Schmid is clearly now the preferred option in goal for Mousinho and Portsmouth, though the summer signing from Linz may have to miss out against Sheffield Wednesday.

Norris has been absent with a short-term injury, which opened the door for Archer in midweek, though any of the three could be named in the line-up on Friday (25 October).

Considerable interest would arise in Norris if he becomes available, after his Team of the Year form and 19 clean sheets in League One last season.
