Adam Webster may be set to end his decade-long Portsmouth hiatus.

The 31-year-old joined Portsmouth when he was 12 years old, before signing a scholarship with the academy in 2011.

In 2012 and aged just 17, Webster made his Pompey first-team debut in a Championship game against West Ham United.

He'd go on to make 81 appearances for Portsmouth between 2012 to 2016, before leaving for Ipswich Town.

Webster's career really took off after leaving Fratton Park, establishing himself as a quality player at Championship and Premier League level.

Now on the free agent market, the big centre-back has been offered a route back to where it all started for him.

What are Portsmouth 'keen' to do for Adam Webster?

Ahead of the 2025-26 season, Webster suffered a devastating ACL injury whilst in pre-season preparations with Brighton.

That sidelined him for the entire 2025-26 campaign as a result, and setting in motion his path to being released by the Seagulls this summer.

But, as claimed in a report by The News, Webster is now on the cusp of completing his rehabilitation, and thus ready to sign for a new team.

The report claims that Portsmouth are "keen" to hand their ex-academy graduate a chance to train with John Mousinho's first-team squad.

It's stated that Webster is "receptive" to the idea of completing his recovery with Pompey, as he potentially tries to win a contract at Fratton Park.

Given he's a free agent, Portsmouth would be able to sign him whenever they like if they like what they see should the defender indeed join training.

But just how much would Webster still have to offer based on the most recent evidence available from his 2024-25 season?

Where Webster was amongst Premier League's best in 2024-25

Having been with Brighton for the last seven years, all 138 of his league appearances for the Seagulls were made in the Premier League.

Fourteen of those came in his most recent 2024-25 campaign, culminating in 11 starts and 888 minutes of top-flight action.

Per FotMob, his 77.4 per cent aerial duels won ranked him in the top 4.1 percentile of all Premier League central defenders that season.

Meanwhile, his 2.03 interceptions and 1.52 touches in the opposition box per game placed him in the leading 5.2 and 10.3 percentiles.

It would be asking a lot for Webster to return to that level of form, but if he could, Portsmouth would be getting a top Premier League defender.

Still only 31 too, there should be plenty of fuel left in the tank depending on how well he recovers from his lengthy injury absence.
