Portsmouth head coach John Mousinho has delivered the latest on the club's pursuit of Karamoko Dembele and Abu Kamara.

The Blues boss was discussing the club's transfer situation with BBC Radio Solent's Andy Moon [16 July] following a 3-1 win at Gosport Borough in the first match of pre-season.

Former Blackpool loanee Dembele is currently at French outfit Brest but Pompey have been credited with an interest [Darren Witcoop], whilst the club's hope of re-signing last season's loanee Kamara is well documented.

Mousinho said: "I've seen the [Dembele] story, but nothing in the way of bids being prepared.

"It's something the fans are excited about but at the moment, there's no movement there.

"With Abu, he's having a good pre-season with Norwich and he played for them on Saturday against Northampton. So at the moment, there's nothing in either of those."

Dembele and Kamara would transform Portsmouth wings

Whilst Portsmouth do currently possess some encouraging options in the wide areas - even more so since the signing of Josh Murphy who opened the scoring at Gosport in his first sighting in blue - one or both of this duo would be a huge statement.

Both players are 21 and have promising futures ahead of them - it feels as if Dembele in particular has been around for a very long time, after he made headlines in 2016 for representing Celtic's Under-20 side aged just 13.

The youngster, who has played for both England and Scotland at various youth international levels, has played his best football whilst on loan with Blackpool last season in Ligue 1, having not hit a regular football streak at either Brest or at Parkhead.

Abu Kamara

Kamara is a known quantity, and an adored one at that. With 18 goal contributions for Portsmouth in the club's champions season of 2023-24, fans are keen for the hierarchy to launch an audacious bid to test parent club Norwich's resolve.

Mousinho has certainly not denied an interest overall - merely that there has been no significant progress with the deals at present - so Pompey fans will remain sat tight in hope.
