Portsmouth on verge of signing Danish striker Sorensen, deal subject to work permit - report

Portsmouth are set to complete the signing of Danish striker Elias Sorensen, according to Farzam Abolhosseini.

The Tipsbladet journalist reported on his X account [30 July] that a deal has been agreed between John Mousinho's side and Danish club Esbjerg for the forward, valued between £250k-£300k.

The transfer is subject to the acquisition of a work permit for the 24-year-old, who has scored 37 goals in 77 matches for his club as they secured promotion to the Nordic Bet Liga last season.

Portsmouth to secure striker transfer

Portsmouth fans were calling on their club to dip into the transfer kitty in the current window, and it looks as if the Blues are answering their prayers with the Sorensen deal.

A former Denmark Under-21 international, Sorensen has experience in English football having joined Newcastle United as a teenager in 2016.

Despite having not made a senior league appearance for the Magpies, short-term loans at Blackpool and Carlisle United exposed the striker to the EFL in 2019.

Sorensen has gone from strength to strength as a striker for Esbjerg, who - like Pompey - secured promotion as champions from the third tier in his homeland at the end of last season.

The club recently suffered a setback with the confirmation that Colby Bishop will undergo a heart procedure [Portsmouth FC, 30 July], potentially affecting his availability for the opening weeks of the Championship campaign.

With Kusini Yengi now expected to lead the line at Leeds United on 10 August, Sorensen would provide much-needed attacking cover.
