BBC Solent's Andrew Moon has offered an update regarding the state of play between Portsmouth and several key players over contract talks.

Moon posted on X [11 June] to state that Pompey remain confident of securing extensions for captain Marlon Pack and full-back Connor Ogilvie.

Pack was reported to have agreed terms [The News, 31 May] but is yet to officially sign, while Ogilvie is expected to follow suit - but the club are in no rush as players continue their holiday period and believe they have the situation fully in hand.

The post by Moon read: "Pompey remain confident Marlon Pack and Connor Ogilvie will sign new deals to remain at the club. These things can take their time (especially without a deadline to force things through)."

An additional thread stated: "[There are] no change to the situations regarding Joe Morrell and Zak Swanson.

"Suspect [there'll] be plenty of offers for both. There's a danger with recency bias that people forget just how good Morrell was in the first half of the season."

Portsmouth continue contract negotiations with players

The key difference between Pack and Ogilvie, and Swanson and Morrell, is that the latter duo do not yet have an offer on the table like their teammates, and will have multiple options to explore.

John Mousinho and his staff have been ruthless since the end of a memorable 2023-24 season, with 10 senior players released as opposed to just two who were immediately offered fresh terms.

One suspects that momentum will slowly pick up in the coming days - particularly with external transfer research as the window officially opens on Friday (14 June).

The club have been recently linked with the likes of Oxford United play-off final hero Josh Murphy, and veteran former player Matt Ritchie.

Things will start to feel real when the new Championship fixtures are announced on 26 June, and from there it's the home straight of pre-season preparations and the recruitment drive will hopefully be well under way at Fratton Park.
