Portsmouth have once again sung the praises of Kusini Yengi on social media following the striker's successful exploits with Australia.

The club shared a series of posts on X [11 June], including the second goal of a brace to help the Socceroos secure a 5-0 victory over Palestine in Perth.

Yengi netted twice before half-time for Graham Arnold's side following a goal against Bangladesh on Thursday (6 June), all contributing towards a 100-per-cent record in Group I of the Asian category of the 2026 World Cup qualifying stage.

Pompey took no hesitation in lauding the 25-year-old with posts including: "YENGI, YENGI, YENGI," "Some bloke," and another with dancing man emojis to accompany the forward's celebration in scoring his second of the game.

Portsmouth will hope Kusini Yengi can bring international form back to Fratton Park

Yengi has been full-scale operating with his national team over the summer, and John Mousinho will be encouraging the striker to hit the ground running as he experiences the Championship for the first time.

Following a successful season in Blue, littered with crucial goals and an endearing impact to the Fratton faithful, Yengi will fancy his chances of proving to Mousinho he needs to bring in one fewer striker in 2024-25.

Pompey's board are finalising their transfer budget but may feel the need to improve other key areas before recruiting more centre-forward firepower, with Yengi versatile and able to operate out wide, as an excellent foil for Colby Bishop.

Mousinho will be buoyed by the fact that Yengi is creating himself opportunities - the Australia team is, pound-for-pound, no stronger than the current Pompey side.

The Socceroos' squad is heavily made up of players from the middling divisions of the English league pyramid, the Scottish Premiership and domestic A-League.

Having breezed through their qualifying group with 22 goals in six games and zero conceded, Australia will take on harder challenges as their efforts to reach the 2026 World Cup progress - but for Yengi, he is seeing the fruit of his labours.
