John Mousinho has lauded the impact of Connor Ogilvie on his Portsmouth side after the defender signed a new contract with the club.

As reported on the Portsmouth FC official website [15 June], Ogilvie has put pen to paper for two more years at Fratton Park, having along with captain Marlon Pack been the only out-of-contract players to be offered new deals this summer.

Ogilvie enjoyed an impressive campaign as Pompey soared to the League One title, and the 28-year-old will now play at Championship level for the first time.

Mousinho told portsmouthfc.co.uk: "[Connor] fully deserved to be offered a contract and is someone that we believe can make the step up to the next level. Connor is an extremely solid – and versatile – defender, while also offering a lot for the team going forward.

“Our record with him in the team is excellent and I’m excited to see what he can do in the Championship.”

Ogilvie has really found a platform on which to excel in his career at Portsmouth, making himself a fan favourite in the process.

Since arriving from Gillingham in 2021, the left-back has hit eight goals in 117 appearances, contributing in attack as well as defensively for the Blues.

John Mousinho has Portsmouth back to the Championship as League One champions.

The former Tottenham academy product is loving life on the South Coast and playing under Mousinho, and signing for two more years seemed to be more a case of 'when' rather than 'if' this summer - the same sentiment remains for skipper and local boy Pack, whose new deal is yet to be formally announced.

Having spent his professional career exclusively in Leagues One and Two, it now seems as exciting and as suitable a time as any for Ogilvie to spread his wings in the Championship - and he'll be full of confidence having heard the backing from his head coach, teammates and the Fratton faithful.
