Connor Ogilvie outshone Luton Town man Chiedozie Ogbene as Portsmouth played out a goalless draw with the Hatters at Fratton Park.

The Pompey left-back put in an assured performance in contributing to a clean sheet for his side, shutting out Ogbene as Luton retreated following a red card to goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski.

Last season, there was two divisions between Ogilvie and Ogbene - but the Blues man came out on top on the South Coast.

Connor Ogilvie showing Championship quality for Portsmouth

Portsmouth head coach John Mousinho has shown faith in former Tottenham academy product Ogilvie from day one and he was the first man to sign a new contract over the summer at Fratton Park.

Despite this being his first campaign in the second tier, Ogilvie has stepped up to the challenge well and was able to comfortably shut out a former Premier League wide man in Ogbene on Saturday (17 August).

As per Sofascore, Ogilvie won five of his seven total duels as Ogbene failed all three of his dribble attempts, winning just two of his seven duels - many of which came with the 28-year-old Pompey man.

Ogilvie was comfortable on the ball too, completing 93 per cent of his passes throughout the 101 total minutes of the game (five minutes' stoppage time in the first half; six in the second).

Ogbene's total expected assists amounted to just 0.16 during the course of the afternoon, with just a 78 per cent pass accuracy and losing possession 13 times, with Ogilvie not to be dribbled past a single time.

If Ogilvie can put in performances against players of Ogbene's calibre over the course of the season, he will become a vital cog in the machine long-term for Mousinho and Portsmouth.
