Portsmouth supporters have a lot to look forward to next season.

John Mousinho looks set to stay in the dugout after interest from the likes of West Brom, Norwich and QPR were linked with his services.

The Fratton Park outfit look set to build on their 16th-placed finish in the Championship, which saw them survive by a five-point margin in their first season back in the division.

However, a new development involving Charlton has left fans concerned over the new season.

Charlton promotion could hamper Portsmouth

The Londoners were promoted to the second tier after securing a 1-0 win in the League One play-off final against Leyton Orient (25 May).

Macaulay Gillesphey's goal in the 31st minute was the difference at Wembley and the Addicks will be joining Pompey next season in the division.

Given the PO4 outfit's record against Nathan Jones' side in recent years that may be a worry for Mousinho's side.

Portsmouth fans worried about Charlton promotion

Given that they have failed to beat the London outfit in their last six meetings, it is no surprise that supporters are not happy about Jones' side coming up.

If Pompey are involved in a relegation battle next season, they will likely be in direct competition with the Valley side.

Their recent record is a concern but that will go out of the window, as it is not the same Charlton team as the one when the sides last met in February 2024 in the third-tier.

The former Premier League clubs will be hoping to take a huge step towards the top-flight next season, but for the Blues that depends on whether Eisner family are willing to back Mousinho with a strong budget in the transfer market.

That will the defining factor in whether the former Burton Albion man can take a step closer to the promised land or struggle against relegation once again.

Their record against their former top-flight rivals may not end up mattering much in terms of overall position, unless they are in a survival battle, but they will be keen to get back to winning ways.
