Portsmouth boss John Mousinho fears Colby Bishop's injury is slightly worse than he first feared.

The striker complained of knee discomfort before the 1-0 win over Norwich City.

He consequently dropped out of the squad for that clash, having initially been named among the substitutes.

Bishop also missed the 1-1 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers in midweek.

The 29-year-old was also absent as Pompey fought back to defeat Millwall 2-1 at Fratton Park on Saturday.

Initially it was hoped Bishop would only miss a couple of weeks, but Portsmouth gaffer Mousinho was not as confident when delivering a fresh update after the Millwall win.

What's the latest with Colby Bishop's injury at Portsmouth?

Mousinho was speaking with BBC Radio Solent reporter Andrew Moon immediately after the game.

The news he provided on Bishop was somewhat of a mixed bag, though it was certainly not as positive as he had hoped midweek.

Mousinho confirmed that Bishop would not require any surgery on the issue, which is a positive for Pompey.

However, the initial prognosis does not look as promising as it first did, with Bishop expected to now miss between four and six weeks.

Mousinho said: "The update at the moment is we're still not 100 per cent sure on how long he's going to be out.

"We were hopeful it was only going to be a couple of weeks, it looks like it's going to be a little bit longer than that, no surgery required, hopefully he'll be back within four to six weeks.

"But we're not entirely sure we just have to wait on the bone bruising to go down on his knee."

Portsmouth must look at the positives

It is obviously hugely disappointing to learn that Pompey could be without one of their main attacking threats until nearly Christmas.

Having seemed an innocuous one initially, it looks as though Bishop's issue is not as straight-forward as it first seemed.

Mousinho has been getting a great tune out of Portsmouth ever since the derby defeat to Southampton.

But it is naturally frustrating for the gaffer to not have an impact player like Bishop available.

That is especially true at a time when the games come thick and fast in the build up to the festive period.

Hopefully Pompey can get Bishop back soon, because in a league like the Championship you need to rely on the entire squad to cope with the demands.
