Portsmouth return to action once again on Saturday as they take on struggling Sheffield Wednesday at Fratton Park.

There is an expectation that Pompey will win the match, given their outstanding start to the Championship campaign.

A victory could even see Portsmouth rise into the play-offs, as promotion continues to remain a possibility.

However, beating the Owls could prove to be a tricky task based on recent results.

Portsmouth have not beaten Sheffield Wednesday at Fratton Park since 2000

Going into the match, Portsmouth have a terrible recent record against Sheffield Wednesday.

Despite the two sides meeting 12 times since the turn of the century, Pompey have only got the better of the Owls three times.

This was evident last season, with Sheffield Wednesday beating Portsmouth 2-1 at Fratton Park, before securing a 1-1 draw at Hillsborough.

In fact, Pompey’s last victory against the Owls came back in 2002, with the South Coast club coming away with a 3-1 win.

Given the current situation at Sheffield Wednesday, it is fair to say that anything other than a convincing victory for Portsmouth will be a poor outcome.

The Owls have been awful so far this season, and look certain to go down.

Therefore, this could be a perfect opportunity for Mousinho to make changes and try out different players.

Now, Franco Umeh and Makenzie Kirk are still waiting to make their Portsmouth debuts after signing on deadline day.
