Portsmouth attacking midfielder Adil Aouchiche will need to be monitored well during the off season, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.

The injury expert claims that, given he's out with a fractured bone, the process will be to stabilise that area until it has healed to a certain extent.

As he's on loan from Sunderland, it is unclear whether or not he'll be under the supervision of the physios at Fratton Park.

That would hinge on whether or not Pompey are making a move to sign him permanently.

Aouchiche may not be ready for pre-season training on day one

It is still unclear whether or not the 22-year-old, who made 12 league appearances for Portsmouth, will be able to join pre-season training on the first day before the new season.

This is because the healing process varies from individual to individual, making it imperative to monitor him well.

Discussing his situation exclusively with Portsmouth NewsDr Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, said: "Typically, the process is to stabilise that area until the bone has healed to a certain extent and then start to load it gradually to build it back up again.

"Whether he’s ready for pre-season day one or not will depend on the full specifics of the fracture.

"There is a chance that it could even take longer as the healing process varies from person to person, so it’s important they monitor him well during the off season."

Portsmouth are unlikely to sign Aouchiche again

Re-signing Aouchiche, even on loan, doesn’t align with Portsmouth’s ambitions under John Mousinho, as the attacking midfielder’s output - 1 goal and 2 assists in 20 league games - was underwhelming for a team aiming to climb the Championship table.

Mousinho’s tactics rely on dynamic, consistent contributors, as seen in their wide-play strengths, but the Frenchman's limited impact fails to justify a return.

Portsmouth need better attackers to bolster their promotion push, especially with other loanees also departing.

Targeting a more prolific or creative option, whether a permanent signing or a loan with higher upside, would better serve Pompey’s goal of building a squad capable of challenging for a top-six finish.
