Portsmouth picked up a massive win on Saturday against Middlesbrough.

Portsmouth beat Middlesbrough 1-0 at Fratton Park for their first win in four games and their first win since 30 August.

John Mousinho's side ended Boro's unbeaten start to the season and moved up to 13th in the Championship table.

The result means that Portsmouth have only suffered one defeat in the last nine league meetings with Middlesbrough.

It was a huge win for Pompey in front of their home fans at Fratton Park ahead of the international break.

Yang Min-hyeok puts Portsmouth ahead with a 'lovely' finish

Yang Min-hyeok grabbed his second goal in as many games when he put Pompey ahead against Middlesbrough

Yang put himself in contention to start for Portsmouth following his display midweek against Watford, and justified his selection with his goal.

The South Korean lashed home from the edge of the area to put Pompey ahead against unbeaten Middlesbrough.

Describing the goal on Sky's Soccer Saturday, Sue Smith labelled the loanee's finish as "superb".

"The cross comes in from the left all the way through to the right and Boro don't deal with it. It's a lovely first-time finish from Yang, who passes it in off the post. Superb finish," she said.

Yang has come in for criticism early in his career at Fratton Park, but has responded brilliantly in the last two games.

Yang finally showing consistency for Portsmouth

Yang arrived at Pompey this summer on loan from Tottenham, following a loan spell at QPR last season.

Yang was brilliant against Watford, scoring his first goal for the club, in what was only his second Championship start since joining.

The South Korean winger has been frustrating in places, but clearly just needed time to settle on the South Coast before delivering.

  • Yang was signed by Tottenham from Gangwon FC in South Korea
  • He did not feature for Spurs in his first six months at the club
  • Yang joined QPR on loan last season, making 14 appearances and scoring twice

Portsmouth have been poor in attack so far this season, but if Yang can continue to pick up the slack, others will benefit and come into form themselves.
