Supercomputer predicts 13-and-a-half year first in Portsmouth vs Sheffield United
Portsmouth look to end a three-game winless run against Sheffield United on Wednesday night.
John Mousinho's men will still be licking their wounds from Sunday's South Coast derby defeat at Southampton.
It was a big missed opportunity for Pompey, with Saints being reduced to 10 just before half-time.
However, it's vital that the Blues don't get hung up on that result, as the Championship rumbles on regardless.
Wednesday night sees Chris Wilder bring his Sheffield United side to Fratton Park for an 7.45pm kick-off.
Blades sit four points above Pompey in the table ahead of Tuesday's fixtures, but is that gap reflected in the supercomputer's prediction?
What's supercomputer predicted to happen in Portsmouth vs Sheffield United?
There will be an element of restored confidence flowing through Sheffield United ahead of their clash with Portsmouth.
After losing three games on the spin in all competitions, Blades put Lincoln City to the sword on Saturday to the tune of three goals to nil.
However, Opta Analyst's supercomputer doesn't believe that will factor in at Fratton Park.
It's given Portsmouth a 42.6 per cent chance of victory, whilst affording Blades a 30.7 per cent chance of taking all three points.
A draw is issued a 26.7 per cent chance of being the outcome at the final whistle, which perhaps wouldn't be a bad result for either side.
Should Pompey indeed take the spoils over Sheffield United, that would signal a long-awaited piece of history against the South Yorkshire outfit.
When was the last time Portsmouth beat Sheffield United?
Portsmouth and Sheffield United's paths have only recently began crossing on the regular again over the last few years.
Indeed, both clubs' trajectories have been different in recent times with the two teams spending most of their time at differing ends of the EFL over the last decade or so.
But with Pompey winning promotion to the Championship in 2024 and Sheffield United relegated to it in the same year, they've been getting familiar again.
However, in the four league games they've contested since 2024, Blades have won three of them with the other ending in a draw.
That means you have to go back to April 2013, 13-and-a-half years ago, to find the last time Portsmouth beat the Steel City side.
The Blues ran out 3-0 winners in League One that day, with Shaun Cooper, David Connolly and Jed Wallace scoring the goals.
Portsmouth's only goal in their last four against Blades was scored by Connor Ogilvie in a 2-1 loss back in February last year.
