Portsmouth are interested in Bolton Wanderers defender Josh Dacres-Cogley this summer but may be too expensive, according to Alan Nixon.

The Sun reporter shared on his Patreon page [7 July] that John Mousinho is a fan of the right-back and could plot a move, but the price tag of £500,000 may be slightly out of Pompey's range.

Portsmouth are already well underway with their summer business as the club prepare for life back in the Championship, signing a mixture of free agents and loan recruits.

Nixon posted: "Portsmouth want Bolton right-wing-back Josh Dacres-Cogley if the price is right.

"Pompey beat Wanderers to promotion and now want their attacking defender. But the fee may be in the £500,000 range and beyond what they want to pay just now."

Portsmouth chase Dacres-Cogley

Expect this transfer to roll on should Portsmouth, as reported, not be too eager to pay half a million pounds for Dacres-Cogley.

It may transpire that the club are willing to meet Bolton's asking price as the transfer window moves into late August, but for now, Mousinho and his staff appear tentative and not game to jump the gun.

Besides, Pompey have already brought in former Barnsley captain Jordan Williams who is expected to be the team's first-choice right-back and should start in the season opener away at Leeds United.

The club have been ruthless in the reassembly of their squad for the higher level, with last season's right-back Joe Rafferty released and now at Rotherham, plus Zak Swanson who may still agree new terms at Fratton Park, but is for now out of contract.

Dacres-Cogley was a key part of the Bolton side which narrowly missed out on joining Portsmouth in promotion from League One, playing 44 league matches and coming up against Mousinho's men.

The 28-year-old only arrived at Wanderers last summer after two years at Tranmere Rovers, and broke through at Birmingham City.
