Portsmouth v Barnsley: Pompey make announcement as Fratton Park mystery emerges
Portsmouth have confirmed they have “exercised their right” to postpone next weekend’s clash against Barnsley at Fratton Park.
The Blues were initially scheduled to play against the Tykes on the south coast on Saturday, 23 March.
However, as confirmed via Portsmouth’s official website on 14 March, the League One fixture will now take place on Tuesday, 16 April, kicking off at 7:45pm.
Pompey have decided to postpone the game after three of their players were called up to international duty.
Which Portsmouth players are on international duty?
If Portsmouth were to have played Barnsley next week, they would have been without Kusini Yengi (Australia) and Paddy Lane (Northern Ireland).
However, Conor Shaughnessy isn’t in the latest Republic of Ireland squad for the upcoming international break, meaning that Abu Kamara and Myles Peart-Harris could be named at youth level for the England team.
Kamara has also been linked with a call-up to the Sierra Leone national team. However, as reported by Pete O’Rourke on 12 March, the 20-year-old Portsmouth forward has rejected the chance to play for the West African nation.
But away from Yengi and Lane, no one is currently aware of who the third player definitely is.

Either way, it’s a surprising decision by Portsmouth with manager John Mousinho previously suggesting that the club won’t decide to postpone that Barnsley game.
The rescheduled fixture now takes place just three days after playing away at Bolton Wanderers, who are also battling Pompey and Barnsley for promotion to the Championship.
