View: Portsmouth promotion prospects further boosted by Tino Anjorin news as Chelsea update shared

Tino Anjorin has not played near as much as he would have liked to for Portsmouth on loan from Chelsea this season.

The 22-year-old sustained an injury in November and has not been seen since as he continues his comeback with his parent club.

However, with the final stretch of the campaign now in sight, John Mousinho has not ruled out Anjorin returning to the side this season.

Tino Anjorin injury update shared by Portsmouth manager

“Tino’s been looking to train with Chelsea, and when those boxes are ticked he’ll be back with us,” Mousinho said, as per The News [22 March].

“He does need to tick all those boxes, though, not just in training but also a bit of strength testing. He needs to do that before he’s back with us.

“When he does it will be full training, but it will be staged in terms of where we get him to in terms of games.”

Mousinho added that anything Portsmouth get out of Anjorin would be a “bonus”, but it is a positive update all the same.

Prior to his lay-off, Anjorin showed what he is capable of across his seven appearances in League One.

The Chelsea product, hailed as an “exciting” talent by Huddersfield Town boss Mark Fotheringham last season, netted once across those games.

Anjorin’s best performance came in his most recent league outing when scoring in the 3-2 win over Reading in October.

In that game, he led the way for shots on target (three) and dribbles (two), with his strike proving the catalyst in a comeback from 2-0 down.

Pompey supporters eagerly await the new season

Clearly, Anjorin has not been able to showcase what he is truly about in a Portsmouth shirt this season.

However, given the praise he has had from previous loans, as well as former Chelsea boss Frank Lampard, he could yet change all that.

And even if Anjorin is only back for a handful of games, he will no doubt be raring to go as he helps to get Pompey over the automatic promotion line.
