Portsmouth set for £7million+ cash boost after new developments
Dan Plumley has shared that Portsmouth would bank a £7-8million revenue boost if they were promoted to the Championship this season.
The football finance expert admitted that the current TV deal would land that new cash injection for the club, who are currently sitting top of League One.
Portsmouth are currently five points clear of Derby in second, but more importantly, have a nine-point gap to Bolton and the play-offs with seven games left to play.
“It’s a decent jump,” he exclusively told Portsmouth News.
“It is linked to the assumption that the current TV deal is the numbers that we’re looking at, so if TV deals change, then this figure would change.
“As it stands at the minute, a League One club going up and a club like Portsmouth, you’re looking at somewhere between £7million to £8million increase in revenue and a lot of that is tied to the revenue.
“Each Championship club gets around £5-6million from the TV pot, the other thing you’re then looking for is any increase in matchday attendance or commercial activity that you can generate.
“For a club like Portsmouth, they are well supported and well attended, and the stadium doesn’t have that much potential to extend capacity in the short term, but you may be able to leverage better commercial deals that will pay better in the Championship.
“When you factor all that in, you’re looking at least £7-8million, which is again at that level, a decent chunk of money.”
