View: John Mousinho makes right decision on Callum Lang for Portsmouth v Derby County
John Mousinho has confirmed that Callum Lang will play no part for Portsmouth in their crunch showdown with Derby County.
Lang made the switch to Fratton Park in the January transfer window and made an instant impact with four goals and an assist in eight games.
However, he has not featured since the 0-0 draw with Blackpool on 9 March due to injury and is still not ready to return to action.
Callum Lang injury return date for Portsmouth set
The good news, though, is that Lang is on course to return to action in around a week-and-a-half’s time.
Speaking to reporters on Monday (1 April), as per the club’s official X account, Mousinho said: “There are a couple of players who are 50-50 after the Wycombe game.
“We’re looking more towards the Bolton fixture for Callum Lang because it’s going a bit slower than we initially hoped.”
Lang’s impact is reflected in the numbers, as his 0.96 goals and assists combined per 90 is bettered only by Kusini Yengi (0.99) [FBref].
The 25-year-old’s 0.77 non-penalty goals per 90, meanwhile, is the best of any Portsmouth player, with Yengi second on 0.56.

In his most recent full outing prior to sustaining the injury, Lang found the target from 100 per cent of his shots against Oxford United [Sofascore].
Indeed, Lang found the net from that effort inside two minutes to put Pompey on their way to a 2-1 victory.
Portsmouth have managed to keep the points ticking along nicely without Lang, but Mousinho will no doubt be eager to get him back involved.
