View: Portsmouth have straightforward decision to make on Connor Ogilvie after what he’s said
Connor Ogilvie is hopeful of being awarded a new contract by Portsmouth when his current deal expires at the end of the campaign.
The defender is approaching three years at Fratton Park but is due to become a free agent when the 2024-25 season concludes.
Pompey will almost certainly wrap up automatic promotion to the Championship, yet there are question marks over a number of first-teamers.
Ogilvie is one of those who will be using the remaining matches to further prove he is worthy of being offered a new contract.
Speaking to The News [11 April], Ogilvie said: “I’m out of contract, so fingers crossed I can stay here. I’d love to be here and I’m happy here.
“This is home for me, 100 per cent, I love it down and I’ve got the family here. It’s home and I’d obviously like to keep it home.”

Ogilvie added that he expects a decision to be made in the summer, but on the basis of his performance this term, it seems an easy decision.
The 28-year-old has started 20 of Pompey’s League One matches and has impressed in a number of areas.
As per WhoScored, the 2.9 aerial duels won per game by Ogilvie – who has also helped out at centre-back – is bettered by only three others.
Having chipped in with two goals and an assist – 0.16 goal involvements per 90 minutes – he has also showed the attacking side to his game.

While the former Tottenham man has perhaps let himself down at times is in terms of his passing accuracy, recorded as 71.2 by WhoScored.
Only five others in Portsmouth’s squad have fared worse this term, but he did register an 88-per-cent pass-completion rate against Shrewsbury Town last time out [Sofascore].
What the statistics do not highlight is Ogilvie’s consistency, and that is why he therefore deserves to stay on at Fratton Park beyond this summer.
