Portsmouth: Bolton injury update as Dion Charles news shared

Portsmouth face Bolton Wanderers in a huge League One clash on Saturday (13 April) with the Trotters receiving an injury boost ahead of the game.

Pompey know that victory at the Toughsheet Stadium will be enough to secure their promotion back to the Championship.

But Bolton have been handed a boost with the news that Dion Charles is fit enough to be on the bench having been absent since February with medial ligament damage.

Speaking about Charles in quotes reported by the Bolton News, Wanderers boss Ian Evatt said: “He won’t be ready to start but he is ready to play a part, and I think that is hugely important for everybody.

“He needs to build some confidence. He is a fit lad anyway, his physical attributes will have no issue with the intensity of the game.

“It is just really building confidence in the knee that he can strike the ball the same way etc. That will grow day-to-day but it will be a huge boost for us to have him back involved.”

They do not come much bigger than this. Top-of-the-table Pompey travel north to face third-placed Bolton and victory means promotion to the second tier and one step closer back towards the riches of the Premier League.

There is no doubt that having Charles available in some capacity is a huge boost for the home side, who will be desperate to delay any Pompey party for at least another week on home soil.

Charles, 28, has 13 League One goals in 29 second-tier outings this season having netted 17 for Wanderers last season, so he is definitely one of their most potent weapons and will be chomping at the bit to get involved versus Pompey.

But John Mousinho’s side have proven all season that they are more than capable of handling these sorts of pressure situations. If they can handle just one more then it will be time to crack open the champagne.
