Portsmouth: Fratton Park renovation update shared ahead of Championship return
Portsmouth CEO Andrew Cullen has shared an update on the next stage of the Fratton Park renovation ahead of the club’s Championship return.
Pompey’s players and staff celebrated promotion – and title success – with supporters after Saturday’s (20 April) loss to Wigan Athletic.
After bringing down the curtain on their home campaign this weekend, plans can now step up for various work to be carried out around the ground.
Writing in his programme notes, as shared by the club’s official website [20 April], Cullen said: “After today’s game the pitch will be stripped in preparation for a large 30-tonne crane to start work on the TV gantry.
“This is the final component of the current phase of the Fratton Park development project and is perhaps the most challenging. The big screen will broadcast a short video showing how the construction will take place and how it will look when completed.
“Other summer project work will see the first team and academy move into new office, gym, analysis and medical facilities at the training ground.
“Work is also well underway on the new North Stand mezzanines, with new bars and toilets, while additional toilets are being constructed in the home areas of the Milton End.”
Portsmouth gearing up for Championship return
The celebrations from this season’s successful campaign will continue long beyond next weekend’s trip to Lincoln City.
Every player deserves to enjoy the acclaim, while supporters will not want the party to stop after what has been a superb campaign.
However, the reality of a return to the second tier will soon kick in and work has to be done both on and off the field.
Bringing Fratton Park up to adequate standard is a must, and it is good to see everything is in place to complete the relevant work.
Not only will the first team benefit from the changes over the summer, but so to will the academy side as their facilities are upgraded.
It goes to show how important promotion was to the club as the additional funds coming in will help to pay towards the renovation work.
The next time Pompey fans are at Fratton Park to watch their side, the changes will be there to see.
