Portsmouth Academy see off Luton Town thanks to Tayo Singerr double

Portsmouth Academy rounded off their home campaign with a well deserved 2-1 victory over Luton Town at the PMC Stadium.

Sam Hudson’s side contained a few 15-year-olds in a sure sign that the future is looking bright for Pompey.

Tayo Singerr was the star of the show as his two goals, either side of Tate Xavier-Jones’ leveller, earned all three points on home soil.

The first of those strikes was an angled drive and the second a goal on the spin at the goalkeeper’s front post.

Speaking to Portsmouth’s official website after the game [29 April], Hudson praised the spirit of his side to get the job done.

“Our opponents were physical and quite direct at times, which we weren’t fully prepared for,” he said.

“They played a different style the last time we met, but I think that – like us – they had a few younger lads in.

“We went with two up front and that’s unusual for us. It was a case of the personnel we had available and the other games we’ve got this week.

“Our running stats were fantastic and we managed to attack well on the outside against their diamond.

“The penalty we conceded was a harsh decision, but the lads reacted positively to that and we went back in front with a well taken finish.”

The Pompey youngsters are now fourth in the Merit League One table ahead of their final game of the campaign away at Plymouth Argyle.
