Portsmouth boss John Mousinho nominated for League One Manager of the Month award
John Mousinho has been nominated for the Sky Bet League One Manager of the Month award for April, as announced on the official Portsmouth website.
In a magical month for the Pompey boss, Mousinho guided the club to the League One title, returning to the Championship after a 12-year absence.
Alongside a memorable late victory over Barnsley to secure promotion at Fratton Park, Mousinho led the Blues to wins over Shrewsbury Town and Lincoln City, also adding two draws.
Following the final whistle at Lincoln to end a stunning season, Mousinho told Portsmouth’s club channels: “It was important for us to end the season well.
“For wins this year, you won’t get better than Barnsley, but it was really good for the 900 Pompey fans who were able to come up to Lincoln to be given three points to go home with.
“It’s been remarkable – particularly when you look at where we were last season – we wanted to revamp into a top-six side. To look at the table [after Lincoln] and see what the boys have been able to do, they’re a special group.”
John Mousinho proving the doubters wrong at Portsmouth
Now the dust – and confetti – is beginning to settle on the South Coast, it gets easier to take a rational evaluation at Pompey’s season – but what Mousinho and the team have achieved becomes no less impressive.
As Mousinho himself outlined at the weekend, the club have gone above and beyond expectations this season to scoop the title with 97 points.
Not to mention, this is the boss’ first full season in management having this week celebrated his 38th birthday.

The jury was certainly out from minute one on the Head Coach upon his immediate retirement from playing to take the reins at Fratton Park – and understandably so – but the confidence and mentorship he has shown with this exciting squad has proven the doubters wrong by the boatload.
