Portsmouth thank loan stars for ‘magnificent contribution’ to League One title success
Portsmouth have hailed the four loan players who helped bring Championship football back to Fratton Park, in a post on X on Friday [3 May].
In a video of over three minutes, Pompey composed a highlight reel to pay tribute to loan quartet Tino Anjorin, Abu Kamara, Myles Peart-Harris and Alex Robertson.
Kamara, on loan from Norwich City, became a heroic figure on the terraces after his eight goals and 10 assists helped Pompey soar to the summit as champions, not missing a league match.
The winger’s chances of a return to Fratton Park potentially hinge on Norwich’s fortunes in the Championship play-offs, but he this week claimed he would relish pulling on the blue shirt again in the future.
Australian international Robertson was a classy performer before injury struck in the midway point of the season, scoring once with four assists in 23 games.
Parent club Manchester City could allow the midfielder a return for Championship experience.
Chelsea’s Anjorin played 12 times and scored once, whilst Brentford’s Peart-Harris racked up the same number of appearances and struck twice – including in last weekend’s season finale at Lincoln City.
Could any Portsmouth loanees return?
Of the quartet borrowed by Pompey in their successful quest to return to Championship football, it’s fair to say Kamara and Robertson are considered most likely to make a comeback.
Both are still youthful prospects and have shown they can certainly play a cut above League One level.
BBC Radio Solent’s Andy Moon predicted last Wednesday that Robertson would be the likeliest to return – a sentiment it’s difficult to disagree with as there is next to no chance he is a Man City regular next term.
Pompey fans would be wise to hope Norwich triumph in this year’s play-offs and return to the Premier League – decreasing Kamara’s chances of game time at Carrow Road. You’d think he has shown enough during the campaign to convince the Canaries he is ready to be a Championship star for them.
Anjorin and Peart-Harris featured more sporadically for John Mousinho’s team, but have shown glimmers of promises that could persuade the Blues boss to consider a summer reunion with either of the duo.
